 Our Wedding

Our ceremony is September 6, 2008 at 3:30pm in a meadow by Sparks Lake in the Deschutes National Forest near Bend, Oregon. Reception follows immediately at the Seventh Mountain Resort in Bend, where all our out-of-town guests are staying. Charter buses will transport everyone from the resort to and from the ceremony. Friday night before the wedding we will host a BBQ at Chelsea's parents' house in Bend for our out-of-town guests.

We hope you can join us in Bend to celebrate. Here is some information to smooth your journey.

Getting to Bend

The Seventh Mountain Resort (see our webpage all about lodging) is located on Century Drive (Oregon Highway 46) between Bend and Mt. Bachelor. The address is 18575 SW Century Drive, Bend, OR 97702.

From the Redmond/Bend Airport (Roberts Field, airport code RDM), it is about a 30-45min drive to the resort by airport transportation like rental cars, taxis, or shuttles. The airlines serving Bend are Horizon Air (regional carrier of Alaska Airlines), United Express, and Delta/Skywest connecting through Seattle, Portland, Salt Lake, or San Francisco. Alternatively, you can fly to Portland and drive to Bend from PDX in about 4 hours. If you fly to Portland, you can also take the Central Oregon Breeze shuttle bus from PDX to the Redmond/Bend airport for $88 round trip (and then rent a car or catch a local shuttle to the resort from there).

Ceremony and Reception

Our ceremony will be at the breathtakingly beautiful Sparks Lake in the Deschutes National Forest (see it in Google Maps or Google Earth).

Getting There and Back

Parking at the lake is extremely limited so we have reserved a fleet of charter buses to carry all our guests between the Seventh Mountain Resort and the ceremony site. Buses will leave the Seventh Mountain Resort headed to Sparks Lake between 2:45 and 3pm on Saturday (it's about a half hour ride each way). Because of the lack of parking at Sparks Lake we ask everyone, including our guests who live in Bend, to please leave your vehicles at the Seventh Mountain Resort and take advantage of this opportunity to ride along singing "The Wheels on the Bus" in boisterous harmony. The buses will return everyone to the Seventh Mountain resort by 5pm when the reception and party will start!

"Seating" Arrangements

To preserve the beauty of the Sparks Lake meadow, the Forest Service will not let us have large numbers of chairs. Most people will therefore be standing around us in the meadow during the ceremony, so wearing comfy shoes is a good idea. Ladies, feel free to leave your spikey heels on the bus and change back into them before the reception (unless you really want to help aerate the ground). We will have a few reserved seats for older people and we will place some seats in a shaded area away from the ceremony for infants or others who feel the need. Baby strollers will fit under the buses, so feel free to bring them.

Physical Comfort

Please use the bathroom before getting on the bus. We have rented a porta-potty trailer and there is a pit toilet at the campground some distance away, but going before you board the bus is the best option. Bring sunscreen or clothing as appropriate for the weather since the meadow is out in the open. If it is raining a lot, we will relocte the ceremony to the tent at the Seventh Mountain Resort.

BBQ for Out-of-Town Guests Arriving Early

On Friday evening at 5pm before the wedding we are having a barbecue at Chelsea's parents house in Bend for our out-of-town guests arriving early. It will be a great chance to socialize, eat, and share your talent on the karaoke machine. The house address is 1781 NW O'Kane Ct, Bend, OR. Parking on O'Kane is limited so you can also park on the hill below their house on NW Starview Drive or NW Farewell Drive. Carpooling is always a good idea too!
